Ace Beauté: Brand Review and 6 Standout Products

Ace Beaute Floral Vintage eyeshadow palette with flowers

Ace Beaute

One of my goals for 2022 was to completely switch my makeup routine to Black-owned brands. It wasn't too hard, which honestly is a complete flex for Black women everywhere and shows that the Black women and founders in the beauty space are really out here making moves. We love to see it!

My base makeup is from Fenty Beauty and Ami Colé, my blush is from Pat McGrath, my concealer is from Ami Colé, and my eyeshadow palettes? They're from Ace Beauté, a Black-owned beauty brand that specializes in gorgeous lashes and incredibly pigmented palettes for all skin tones.

Ace Beauté was founded by Niye Aniekan-Attang in 2016 due to a lack of inclusion in the makeup space. "I started Ace Beauté in 2016. I've always been into beauty. It was something that was passed on from my grandma growing up," she explains. "When I came to college, I was experimenting with color and I would watch all these YouTube videos. I would go to the drug store, make a list, and buy every single item—and I would come back and it just didn't look the same on me. The pigment wasn't there, it just wasn't showing up. So, I saw that there was a lack of inclusion when it came to people my skin tone and in 2016, I set out to start Ace Beauté."

Aniekan-Attang's first products for Ace Beauté were lashes, but her ultimate goal was to branch into eyeshadows and other pigmented products. Each eyeshadow palette is carefully and intentionally curated with a specific color story. "Even though we started with lashes, we are known for our very curated eyeshadow palettes," she says. "A lot of people love them because the color stories they say just kind of make sense. We don't just dump a color in there because we want to fill a 15-shadow pan. We always make sure that when we are curating these color schemes—we're thinking of the many looks that someone can create with that eyeshadow palette."

"Here at Ace Beauté, our motto is actually 'Beauty for All,'" she adds. "I think coming from a place where I didn't feel included, I know what it feels like to want to try something but somehow you're not included. So we made sure that our motto here at Ace Beauté is beauty for all—beauty for everybody regardless of age, regardless of sex, regardless of religion, regardless of whatever you are. It's come-as-you-are because we encourage everybody to just have fun with it."

Honestly, the photos don't do this palette justice. When I first opened it, I audibly gasped. Each shade is richly pigmented and true to the color in the pan. I absolutely love the color story, too. You can break up the colors into quadrants, use all the shades going across, or mix and match for an eclectic look.

And listen, the green shade called Moss? It's everything I've ever needed from a green eyeshadow and more.

I love blush. I have at least 20 different options that range from drugstore to high-end, in all varieties from powder to cream. This palette is the one I've been reaching for the most in recent weeks. Again, the pigmentation just shines through—all you need is a gentle tap of a brush and you get intense color payoff that lasts through the night.

Like the name implies, the color story of this palette is inspired by a gorgeous, early morning sunrise. The shades Golden Hour, Day Break, Pyramid and Gleam have permanent spots in my daily makeup routine.

Bronzed In Paradise

Until maybe a year ago, I didn't wear bronzer regularly. I thought it was just something you can use to contour, which is something I'm not good at. I've now been converted and this palette really gives me everything I need in a bronzer. The powders are super fine and melt into the skin. I love using the lightest shade to set my under-eye concealer. It has that hint of warmth that makes my makeup look super natural and not overly bright.

Tiff Magnetic Lashes

Ace Beauté Tiff Magnetic Lashes $20.00

Before I tried the Ace Beauté magnetic lashes, I had never successfully put on a false lash before. I'm a Sagittarius and very impatient so I never took the time to learn, but these lashes are next-level easy to put on. I got to try two styles, the first being the Tiff lash, an everyday glam lash that really takes your look up a notch. These lashes are made with synthetic, cruelty-free fibers and are super lightweight, too.

Aniekan-Attang offers her tips for applying. "First, apply the provided magnetic liner glue and line your eyes like you would any gel or liquid liner," she says. "Wait about 30 seconds, then take out the magnetic lashes. The lashes have 12 magnets on them, which is very helpful because it is not going anywhere. Line the lashes up with the liner on your eye, and you can actually see the magnet attract to the liner on your lid." It's that easy!

If you're going for a bold, glam, night-out-with-friends type look, you'll want to pick up the Paris lashes. These lashes made me feel like "that girl" in the best way possible. Again, they're very easy to apply and super lightweight—they felt like I didn't have anything on. Removal was easy as well: Gently pull the lash away from your eye from the inner corner outwards (or vice versa!) and stash them for your next use. To remove the liner, gently dab an oil-based eye makeup remover across your lash line.
