Summer is an exciting time for beauty. When warmer temperatures roll around, fun makeup trends always emerge. Many of us trade in our everyday routine for colorful eyeshadows, vibrant graphic eyeliner, and brighter lipsticks. But, in addition to these popular summer beauty trends, blush is having a moment this season. If you're obsessed with beauty TikTok like I am, you've likely watched quite a few blush-focused videos recently. "Ombre blush" is one of the buzziest looks to emerge from the app, with the hashtag amassing over 7.4 million views.

As its name suggests, the trend involves strategically applying lighter and darker blush shades to create an ombre effect. While recreating it at home may sound daunting, it's incredibly easy. All you need is your favorite blush and beauty tool. My preferred blush? Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer Blush

The Product

Laura Mercier TM Blush

When it comes to this look, the product you’re using is key. This creamy formula comes in 14 customizable shades that can be layered to your desired coverage level, provides 12 hours of hydration (thanks to ingredients such as raspberry seed and prickly pear), and can be applied almost anywhere (from cheeks to lips to eyelids). Basically, it combines the beauty of blush with the skincare benefits of a moisturizer. So, both its consistency and its pigmentation makes this the perfect blush to tackle the trend without looking blotchy or clownish.

How to Achieve the Look

To begin, I picked the two contrasting colors I wanted to use. I opted for Southbound (a peachy pink) as my lighter shade and Croisette (a shimmering garnet) as my darker shade. I applied Southbound to the apples of my cheeks and Croisette slightly above, targeting the areas I'd apply bronzer. Using a sponge, I blended Southbound first and then Croisette. While many cream blushes can be messy and hard to work with, the Tinted Moisturizer Blush was easy to use. As I dabbed the sponge across my face, the blush instantly melted into my skin. To finish, I used my finger to press the product into my skin a bit more to ensure the two colors looked seamless.

Creating the "ombre blush" trend with this product is that simple, however, there are a few ways you can amp up the look if you're feeling creative. For example, you can mix any Tinted Moisturizer Blush shades to create a custom cheek color. You can also use more than two colors to create a dramatic ombre effect—many beauty TikTokers have used three of four blush shades and achieved stunning results.

So, how do I feel about the look overall? Well, I've never been one to layer or mix blush colors. I usually stick to one shade (a rosy pink hue) and apply a light layer to give my skin a natural flush of color. However, I've quickly fallen in love with the "ombre blush" trend using the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Blush. The product's blendable, weightless formula felt refreshing on my skin and it made draping the shades across my cheeks an effortless process. The resulting look gave my face dimension, natural color, and a stunning sheer glow that lasted all day. Bottom line: the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Blush is an instant add-to-cart, and I’ll use it to wear “Ombre blush" all summer and beyond.
